ASIS NZ Meetings

Regular meetings are held in both Auckland and Wellington and are often open to non-members. In addition to hearing from speakers on a wide range of security related issues, these meetings are a great opportunity for networking.

Auckland meetings are normally held on the last Friday of each month, January to November, at 07:45. Please note the 2008 venue list below.

Wellington meetings are normally held on the third Tuesday of each month, February to November, at 07:00 in the Beehive.

Susan is an independent security and risk management consultant for organisations in both government and the private sectors. She attended the Security Professionals’ Congress held in Melbourne in May 2008 and volunteered to represent New Zealand as part of the “Security Professionals’ Taskforce” from May 2008-2009. The next Wellington meeting will be held on

0700 hours Tuesday 17th June 2008

at

The Beehive/Parliament

The guest speaker this month is Superintendent Bill Searle of Police National Headquarters. Bill's position of responsibility within the Police is leading a "refreshed" approach to community policing. The key aspects include:

1. Listening to and including the community in identifying problems
and developing 'whole of community' solutions.

2. Developing local solutions to local problems within national
guidelines.

3. Integrating community policing as a vital component, into an
evidenced based and targeted whole of policing approach.

4. Co-ordinating all Police community focused staff into community
policing teams.

5. Developing ways of making policing more visible, accessible and
familiar to the public.

Bill is very well qualified to speak on this important aspect of policing. He has a 26 year police career, having worked in both the CIB and General Duties Branch, primarily in Central and South Auckland and more lately in Hamilton and now Police Headquarters.

One of the 2008 initiatives of ASIS is to build on our relationships with public law enforcement agencies. This presentation offers an opportunity to learn about current police initiatives and to discuss with Bill where you believe the private security industry can contribute to safer communities.

Please advise by Thursday 12 June if you can make this event.
